The advertisement for Stage I examination of NTSE is released in the month of July – August every year.
Stage 1 examination is conducted by the States/UTs, in which the schools are located and there is no domicile restriction for appearing this exam.

Different states may have different last dates for submission of application form, thus respective liaison officer of your state should be contacted. Completed forms are to be submitted at the liaison office. Application forms are not directly sent to NCERT, the exam conducting body.
All application form should be duly signed by the principal of the school.
The medium of the Stage 1 examination is announced by states/UTs. Normally Stage 1examination at the State/UT level will comprise of two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) (b) Language Test (LT) and (c) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
The state level screening examination is normally conducted in all the states/UTs on second Sunday of November or as per advertisement of each State/UTs.
Students who qualify Stage 1, will be eligible to appear for Stage 2 examination, conducted by NCERT.
The results of State Level Talent Search Examination are generally declared in the months of January/February by the States/UTs.
Marks scored in stage 1 examination are not added to Stage 2 examination conducted by NCERT.
