awesome collection of ques….really helpful for those preparing for NEET 🙂

  • Cheshta

Hey, can anybody plz explain me d method of solving Q.no.- 20 ??

    • anisha

      ITS A VERY EASY ONE
KEEP THE LEVEL OF PLOIDY OF FEMALE SAME BUT HALF THE MALE PLANT PLOIDY LEVEL
      U WILL GET UR ANSWER
      GD LK

    • AMAN

AS YOU KNOW IN FEMALE GAMETOPHYTE AFTER MEOSIS 4N WILL B 2N SO 2N IN POLAR NUCLEI AND 2N IN EGG CELL THEN FUSION OF MALE GAMET WHICH IS N SO AS U KNOW ENDOSPERM WILL FORM AFTER FUSION OF ALL THESE GAMETS WHICH WILL RESULT IN 5N(PENTAPLOID)

      u kidding me???
see, endosperm is formed by fusion of secindry nucleus(that is 2 polar nuclie fused with each other)and a sperm nuclie from the anther…
so,the secondry nucleus’ll have a ploidy equal to ploidy of female plant and sperm nuclie will have a ploidy equal to half the ploidy of male plant

in the above case, male has ploidy of 2n so its sperm nuclie’ll have ploidy equal to n
      and
secondary nucleus’ll have ploidy equal to 4n(same as female plant because when 2 polar nuclie fuse, they produce structure with ploidy equal to ploidy of female plant)
      therefore ploidy of endosperm = 4n+n = 5n
hence d is correct answer 😉

Remember..(in diploid female and male plant) in the triple fusion (3 nuclei fusion- 2 polar nuclei fuses with 1 male gamete)which results in formation of an endosperm (which is 3 nuclei).
In the given question, here it is TETRAPLOID female plant instead of DIPLOID female plant so,
      each nuclei will be ‘2n’
further in polar nuclei there are 2 nulcei..
      so, 2n X 2 nuclei = 4n (polar nuclei)
when it fuses with male gamate,
      it gives…
      4n (polar nuclei) + n (male gamate) = 5n (endosperm)
As its 5n, it is “Pentaploid”

      ^^
